Once upon a time"root canal" was deemed a dreaded phrase to hear from your dentist - but thankfully advancements in dental technology and anaesthetic mean this is no more!
At Alpers, we will do all that we can to make sure you're comfortable and relaxed throughout this painless procedure, you will even be able to continue with the rest of your day following treatment.
If you're experiencing toothache, hot/cold sensitivity or notice that your gums are swollen, you should schedule a dental consultation. Our dentist will be able to confirm if you require root canal treatment.
You may require root canal treatment if the nerve inside the tooth has developed an infection or died (necrotic).
Root canal treatment is completed over the course of 2-3 appointments.
At your first appointment our dentist will provide you with pain relief by applying a medicated dressing within the tooth. The pain should begin to ease approximately 12-24 hours after application.
The following week, our dentist will begin cleaning and disinfecting the canals. Once complete, the tooth is redressed and a temporary filling placed.
When you are pain free and the tooth has settled, the root canal can be sealed to protect it from reinfection.
We recommend your newly treated tooth is finished off with a dental crown. Root canals can weaken teeth and leave them at risk of cracking if they are not crowned.
The cost of a root canal varies due to anatomical differences in teeth between patients.
