Red Light Therapy in Epsom, Auckland

What is Red Light Therapy?

At Alpers Dental, we’re always looking for ways to support healing from the inside out—and that’s where red light therapy comes in.

Using low-level red wavelengths, this gentle treatment targets your body’s energy centres (the mitochondria), helping them produce more ATP—the fuel your cells need to repair, regenerate, and thrive. As we age—or when stress, illness, or lifestyle take their toll—our ability to produce ATP can slow down. Red light therapy helps reignite that process.

Many of our patients exploring red light therapy Auckland wide are seeking support for pain, inflammation, or recovery after dental or facial treatments. And while it’s subtle, the benefits can be powerful: improved circulation, faster healing, and a noticeable difference in how you feel

How Does It Work?

Cellular Response: When cells absorb red or near-infrared light, it triggers a series of biochemical reactions within the cell.

Mitochondrial Function: Red light therapy is believed to enhance mitochondrial function, which produces energy (ATP) within cells.

Benefits: Improved mitochondrial function can lead to increased cellular metabolism, enhanced tissue repair and regeneration, reduced inflammation, and modulation of oxidative stress.

What conditions can red light therapy help with?

Red light therapy has been studied for its potential benefits in treating a variety of conditions, including chronic pain, arthritis, skin disorders, wound healing, muscle recovery, and promoting overall wellness.

Is red light therapy safe?

Red light therapy is considered safe when used properly. It does not produce heat and does not damage the skin like UV rays do. However, it's essential to follow manufacturer's guidelines and avoid looking directly at the light source to prevent potential eye damage.

How long does a red light therapy session last, and how often should it be done?

Session durations can vary depending on the device and the treatment area. Typically, sessions range from a few minutes to around 20 minutes. The frequency of sessions depends on the individual's condition and goals, but many people find benefit from regular sessions several times per week initially, then reducing frequency as symptoms improve.

Rinse your mouth with a solution of warm water mixed with 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of salt to help reduce inflammation.
Avoid hot, cold, or acidic foods and beverages temporarily.
Practice gentle brushing and flossing techniques.
Switch to a desensitizing toothpaste, such as Sensodyne or Colgate Sensitive.
