HYGIENE
Dental hygienists are trained to work alongside our dentists in providing care and carrying out your treatment plan. They are vital members to any dental practice and in maintaining your oral health. Their main focus is on preventative care, whether that is dental health or gum disease.
Adults with a standard level of oral hygiene should visit the hygienist at least twice a year, those with gum disease, or onset of gum disease will require more frequent and sometimes longer appointments.During a standard hygiene appointment your teeth will be scaled (the removal of tartar build-up from the teeth and gum line) and polished (the removal of staining from the surface of the teeth).
All of our hygienists are qualified dental therapists, meaning they are able to carry out dental procedures which some people may more commonly associate with a dentist, such as; fillings and extractions of baby teeth using the same materials as a dentist - as long as an adult tooth does not need treatment to the nerve. They cannot restore an adult tooth.
As well as scaling and polishing, our hygienists can also carry out the following treatments;
- Whitening - to remove deeper staining or to give your smile that extra sparkle.
- Fluoride varnish
- Fissure sealants
- Facial peels
