home : orthodontics : tourettesA recent discovery by an American orthodontist links the symptoms of Tourettes syndrome - uncontrollable face and/or body tics and vocal outbursts such as grunting, barking, or shouting words - with disorders of the TMJ.Dr Burford is a friend of Dr Brendan Stack, the orthodontist who has developed non-invasive, non drug treatments using oral appliances to calm the symptoms and allow a full return to normal function. Dr Burford has attended lectures by Dr Stack on his treatments, and we are now offering these therapies at Alpers Dental. Examples of the treatments can be seen on the web at www.tmjstack.com or on YouTube. The treatments are closely linked to our current treatments for TMJ disorders and to our orthodontic philosophies. We have no need to develop new skills or techniques to treat Tourettes. We are using treatment procedures well establed over many years in our office.
