John Burford ED BDS. Graduated from Otago Dental School in 1963 and, apart from a two year period working in the Canadian Arctic, spent the next 27 years in a very busy practice in Greymouth. Thought he was going to semi retire on moving to Auckland in 1991, but ‘retirement’ is now off his vocabulary. John has lectured on topics ranging from surgery design to orthodontics and treatments for snoring at conferences in New Zealand, Australia, Zimbabwe, Canada, and the United States. His work is now mainly in orthodontics, the treatment of jaw joint disorders and headaches, and dental procedures for snoring and sleep apnoea. John was awarded the ED [twice] for military service, and also finds time for photography – he has produced two photo books of the West Coast.

Sarah Cole BDS. Sarah graduated in 1981 and married an Otago Dental School colleague, Nick [now an Auckland periodontist], in the same year. She has been in practice in Auckland - apart from a couple of years working in London’s West End - ever since. Sarah practices general dentistry in the Group, with a particular interest in endodontics and in cosmetic dentistry. Sarah is very experienced in making ceramic crowns and inlays using the computer generated CEREC system. These metal free porcelain restorations are state of the art in restoring posterior teeth. And, when you are able to speak, Sarah likes to talk about golf [or any sport!] and horses or fashion!

Nicolas Anderson BDS. Nic grew up in Palmerston North and graduated from Otago in 1997. He worked in a dental practice back in his home town for two years. Then he was off to see the world and to work in a group practice in Wimbledon, London, for a further couple of years before deciding to come to Auckland to settle down – and is now married and a father to prove it! Nic’s main interests are orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry – and he also has a Diploma in Business Administration. If you want to talk to him about other things, try cricket - Nic comes from a well known cricket family; his father is one of NZ's top umpires, and Nic has played at provincial level. Babies usually go to bed with a teddy bear - but Vincent Anderson shares his cot with a cricket bat!

Bernard Emerre BDS, LDSRCS. Graduated with John in 1963. Bernard worked in Christchurch and Motueka before heading to England and, later, to Canada where he and John treated Inuit and Indians across the High Arctic. Bernard has worked in hospitals in NZ and in the UK and, more recently, he has run his own practices in England and Germany. So not only is he totally competent in the full range of dental procedures, but he also speaks fluent German! Bernard does general dentistry with an emphasis on periodontics and oral surgery, as well as helping with orthodontics and TMJ [jaw joint] disorders. When he’s not at work, Bernard will probably be away on a yacht or hitting a golf ball somewhere

Alison Leigh BDS. Like the other dentists in the Group, Alison graduated from Otago University. She graduated [and got married] in 1988. Alison and her husband worked in England before she started dentistry with John on a part time basis way back in 1993. Another couple of years in England [with three daughters!], and finally back to Auckland in 2002. The fourth daughter arrived and Alison rejoined the Group for a bit of peace and quiet! Previously Alison represented Auckland and Otago in badminton. She played squash and tennis and ran a bit - and recently she even completed a mini triathalon. But Church stuff and a book club are now the preferred relaxations!
