BCST

What is BCST?

There are plenty of things that you are likely going to experience throughout the day that will lead to stress. It could be your job, your spouse, your kids, or anything else that you are going through. When that stress begins to develop, you may notice tension or pain in your jaw, as well as throughout other parts of your body.

We personally believe that BCST can have wonderful benefits for those who are stressed or feeling unwell. We’ve seen first hand the benefits of BCST, which is why we continue to offer it here at our office. At Alpers Dental in Epsom, we care about our patients overall health, which is why we offer additional services like BCST.

What are the Benefits of BCST?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a subtle and profound hands-on healing therapy which assists the body’s natural capacity for self-repair. A BCST practitioner listens to the body through craniosacral touch and supports the body to release patterns of tension without manipulation.  The field of Craniosacral Therapy was initially developed by an Osteopath named William Sutherland over 100 years ago, and continues to evolve to this day. Craniosacral Therapy in its various forms is now used by many Chiropractors, Osteopaths and Doctors to help their patients.

One reason that we first started offering BCST at Alpers Dental was to help patients who had problems with jaw tension or TMJ. However, once we started seeing all of the other benefits that BCST provided, we started recommending our orthodontic patients have it too, as it helps relax the cranial sutures which will necessarily come under a bit of pressure with some orthodontic appliances.

A gentle therapy, it’s safe and suitable for all ages, including newborns, the elderly and people with delicate, degenerative or painful conditions. It’s also been found particularly beneficial for those suffering the effects of stress as it works deeply on the nervous system, helping to release tensions at their point of origin. A treatment generally lasts twenty minutes to half an hour for a child, and 40 minutes to an hour for adults.
